The flagship dynamic IEM from FiiO renders a beautiful, detailed midrange with a natural tonality. Despite the fantastic sound, they had me at the stainless steel housing with chrome finishing and the stunning 3D faceplate.

DESCRIPTION

FiiO leaves no stone unturned to offer the absolute best, particularly with its flagship products like the FiiO FD5. These premium IEMs feature a large 12mm dynamic driver that uses N52 magnets along with a high magnetic flux of 1.5 Tesla, to produce a compelling bass response and high-frequency audio resolution. This single-driver structure encourages accurate sound positioning along with transparent sound, wide soundstage and high-class dynamics.

After thorough research and experimentation, FiiO employed a combination of Beryllium and diamond-like carbon (DLC) for their dynamic driver. These materials contribute much-needed rigidity and flexibility that reduces unnecessary vibrations while making the driver more responsive to voice coil movements. This is why you get to hear your music in great detailed sound without any kind of distortion with the FiiO FD5.

To eradicate obstacles related to delay in different sound waves, the FiiO FD5 comes with an exclusively developed acoustic prism system. There is a conical device, which is installed close to the front end of the driver diaphragm, for precise control over how sound waves travel. This reduces high-frequency standing and promotes overall sound wave diffusion. The use of a “volcanic field” minimises low-frequency standing waves, reduces distortion, and improves the diffusion of bass waves.

By adopting a semi-open design, the FiiO FD5 relieves air pressure on the ear that benefits music listeners to have a comfortable listening experience even during extended hours. This means that you get to enjoy your music in a balanced sound without feeling fatigued. With carefully designed curves, the design of the FiiO FD5 mirrors the grandness of mountains and waterfalls. These curves are paired with exquisite faceplates to amplify the beauty of these IEMs.

The 3D embossed stainless steel faceplate adds a luxurious feel to the FiiO FD5. Apart from making these IEMs look impressive, the robust faceplates decrease harmonic distortion and reflections of sound waves within its body. These faceplates are in striking contrast with the otherwise chrome-finished body of the FD5. You get interchangeable sound tubes in small and big sizes which can fit almost all ear sizes. Kindly note that the large sound tube is balanced while the small sound tube focuses on the bass. It is advised to use the small sound tube with triple-flange eartips for a sound elevating fit.

Equipped with 8 strands of monocrystalline silver-plated copper cable and an expanded MMCX connector. This Litz Type 2 cable faithfully transmits sound in the highest quality and it comes with interchangeable audio plugs for 2.5mm/3.5mm/4.4mm. This leaves room for a range of sonic possibilities.

The FiiO FD5 is "High-Res Audio" certified, confirming its detailed and lifelike sound-producing capabilities. You can store/carry these earphones safely inside the HB5 storage case that comes included in the box among other accessories.

1. The small hole of the front cavity is used to relieve pressures. It can help to moderate pressures that happened to the ear canal when putting the FD5 inside the ears. If the front hole is blocked, it would enhance the bass performance. However, hearing fatigue would also be caused easily due to increasing pressures in the ear canal. 2. The dynamic driver diaphragm of the FD5 used beryllium-coated DLC. Therefore, if the front pressure-relief hole is blocked, it would possibly lead to transformation to the beryllium-plated diaphragm and thus bring abnormality to the sound performance.
【The advantage of the net holes on the front faceplate】
The FD5 adopts a semi-open design. Through the small hole, it can relieve air pressure on the ear quickly– leading to more natural, comfortable and long listening sessions.
【The advantage of the volcanic field system】
The volcanic field system is an anti-standing wave structure we designed for the rear cavity of the FD5. By reversely preventing harmful standing waves, it plays an important role in enhancing bass diffusion at the rear cavity, reducing standing waves and distortion, thus achieving clearer sound.

The FD5 has unit markers on the earphones: blue L on the left side and red R on the right. Other than the letter marker, there is corresponding colors at the position of the MMCX connector, left blue and right red.
